On the upcoming album, Now I Am My Life, Reckless Barb takes you on the journey. It starts with Splash 1: Out of the Water, bringing you into his world. The journey of the fish after jumping out of the water, the arc of that journey is the album. At the end, we find ourselves at Splash 2: Right Back In.

Waking Up on a Beautiful Day

Waking Up on a Beautiful Day is the third song on the album, and the first single releasing on May 9. This upbeat track emphasizes the perspective choice in viewing the day as beautiful, realizing love might be the key. The chorus creates a sense of uncertainty whether you are awake at all. The ending transports you to another dimension.

A Story, An Odyssey

Reckless Barb’s debut album, Now I Am My Life, is the result of five years of searching, questioning, and becoming. Each track opens up its own world, but together, they tell the full story: a meditation on awareness, transformation, and finding a place inside existence.

Barb has been making music for over a decade, first as a drummer and then as a songwriter. In high school and college, he played in bands, won battle of the bands competitions, and opened for national acts like Echosmith and Panic! At The Disco. Over time, he realized he needed to build something even deeper—something fully his own.

After college, he started from the ground up: teaching himself guitar, learning how to record and mix, and working under names like babs.0 and Daydream Fountain. Now I Am My Life is the moment it all comes together—where life, sound, and vision meet.

Listening Parties

Reckless Barb has been hosting listening parties around other creative experiences. A poetry night, a paint n sip, and a puff n paint have been great circumstances to listen to the album straight through. Conversations flourish, love is spread.

The seeds of this album were planted in 2017. Reckless Barb was living on the road working at music festivals at the time. He was writing poetry in a notebook when Splash suddenly emerged as a 2 part poem.

Eventually, after a long night of antics, he found himself on a reservoir in California while the Sun was rising. A hippie with long hair was playing guitar next to him. He read Splash aloud for the first time. The echoes of that moment are finally coming to fruition.

After years on the road, he came home in 2019. That August, on his first mushroom microdose, Reckless Barb found himself creating sounds in his studio. What could this be? An answer came: Splash.

Over time, the album slowly revealed itself. Other songs and projects filled the years in between, but the Splash tracks held a deeper pull—a sense that they were saying something more. Then in 2023, just as Reckless Barb decided to finish the record, a dream arrived.

In it, Ram Dass sat peacefully in a Hawaiian garden, softly repeating the phrase: "Now I am my life." Reckless Barb woke up repeating it too. Its meaning wasn’t immediately clear—but over time, it became obvious. This was the title. This was the story.
